Government To Licence Landlords

Following the Julie Rugg review, the government are now considering tougher new regulations for landlords. There has been a large increase in landlords due to the 'accidental landlord' coming into the market. It is clear that the current legislation affecting Landlords is being ignored by a number of Landlords, either deliberately or through ignorance of the law.

The majority of Landlords do comply with the law and provide decent housing, but there are an estimated 1 million Landlords now and even a small percentage of rogue Landlords adds up to a very significant number. The licence (similar format to a driving licence) will cost about £50 it is estimated.

A Green Paper will be produced by the goverment in about ten days. We will, of course keep you updated on this situation. To read more about this and watch the video from Times Online click here..
